The welcome was very good and the place is meant for travelers seeking genuine African vibes. The gear is basic but fits the adventurer; it sits 500 m from the Sacred Forest and is well connected by zem in the heart of the community, making it easy to chat with the staff. The only downside was the overall quietness of the spot and how scarce the staff were.

The service was decent, but I didn’t like anything. The place is in a terrible state, nothing like the photos, completely abandoned, and you can’t even get a Coca‑Cola there.

The Secret Garden feels like a breath of fresh air in the heart of Ouidah, and its manager is always available and very friendly. The accommodation is spotless and well‑equipped, the staff listen attentively, and breakfast is superb. I can only recommend it—it’s the best place I’ve seen so far for such a low price and has become my favourite spot in Benin.

The hotel and restaurant are simple and relaxing, kept in excellent condition by Prince and his team, who also give great advice on how to explore Ouidah. The grilled fish served under the tree are delicious!
