This community‑run pub was very busy that night, but the staff still showed real kindness and consideration, and the food was delicious. Nothing to complain about.

Lovely, quiet spot, spotless and welcoming; the room‑served continental breakfast was a nice touch, with fresh milk and orange juice in the fridge. I only wish there had been a comfy armchair to sit in; staying when the pub and restaurant were closed was a little disappointing, but it didn’t spoil the lovely visit.

Breakfast was left in the bedroom: a piece of fruit, cereal and a croissant, orange juice, tea, and coffee—enough for an early start. The croissant wasn’t fresh, which makes sense since it had to be left in the bedroom the day before; I’m not sure what the alternative could be. If you’re sensitive to noise, the bedroom fridge buzzed and hummed continuously.

Nice people, good food, a family room for one night on the way (near the motorway) was very suitable. Nearby is Crofton Steam Engine, a pumping station with a 1812 James Watt steam engine that volunteers run on Sundays—definitely worth a visit! The location is on a busy road, but the hosts provide earplugs.
