The house and garden are huge, very private and quiet, surrounded by nature and a lot of birds. There’s plenty of shade, which is blissful in summer. The décor is beautiful and tasteful, with nice lamps throughout the garden. The bed is comfortable, parking is good, and the complimentary edibles were a nice touch. However, the outdoor facilities were neglected, which was a major disappointment since that was a key reason for choosing this place. One of the fire braisers was rusted, full of ashes and unburned logs; chairs were wet and dirty. The barbecue was dirty and still had old ashes. The owners replied that they don’t have time to maintain it and that it’s the guests’ responsibility, which felt unfair. We weren’t told we had to clean up after others. The firewood was unusable—just big logs not split for burning. We were told not to use the fireplace in the main room unless we received instructions, but no one was available until day three of our stay, so it was cold. The heating never raised the temperature above 19 °C. The fireplace was also not ready for use, full of ashes and logs left by previous guests. The Jacuzzi is smaller than typical, shallow. The shower in the master bedroom leaked a lot of water onto the floor. There isn’t enough lighting inside; the main seating area had no lights, so we didn’t use it. The other bathroom had a lot of hair on the entire floor.
