The breakfast was served by a kind gentleman (a big American man) who was cheerful and attentive. The location was somewhat remote, and occasionally air from the nearby pig farm drifted in.

The place had a strong smell of pig from the neighboring farm.

We really needed a hotel room in Hjørring, but everything was booked because of DanaCup, so we ended up staying at Gl. Vraa Slotshotel for three nights. When we arrived, a message was left on our door by the locked reception, detailing our room number, key box code, and Wi‑Fi codes, and it worked fine. The first night we were the only ones on the castle, and we jokingly called it a ghost night! The old castle was lovely, with a beautiful park garden and a nice old restaurant in the basement. There was no one at reception, and the restaurant was closed the first two days we were there. Wi‑Fi was very weak and unstable, there was dirt in the corners, for example in the restaurant and in the common areas; the TV in the room didn’t work because of a loose connection in the smartbox or HDMI cable, and the woman on the help line seemed to think we were too stupid to turn on the TV and smartbox properly, but she promised help that never arrived. Even though we had booked a table at the restaurant, the restaurant had not been notified, so we only got a table the last evening. The food sounded interesting, but the starter and middle course were overcooked and very watery with little flavor; the main course and dessert were okay except the potatoes were cold. At the breakfast buffet it took 20 minutes to get more cheese, and there was no fresh bread, only soft “paprundstykker.” On the evening of the second day, the wind direction changed and suddenly a foul smell of gill from the nearby pig factory wafted in, so much that we couldn’t keep the window open at night.

The whole hotel smelled like pigs, and the rooms we received were dirty and disgusting. There were many dead insects on the floor, and the toilet was completely clogged, creating a horrible sewage odor in one of the rooms.
