The room and bathroom are larger than a city hotel, but once you’re inside it’s a hassle to leave the room. Breakfast was simple and good, though I’m not sure if it felt like a bargain, and the miso soup was instant and very light.

The hotel is close to bars, yet there were a lot of hairs from the previous guest in the room and bathroom.

The place was clean, the amenities plentiful, the bath spacious and the futon on the bed felt wonderful, plus there were many shops and eateries nearby, including Don Quijote and other everyday stores, making it very handy for a simple overnight stay, while the interior’s quirky Japanese‑Western mix of objects—perhaps a fan of pine trees—like the giant Ushiku Daibutsu at the entrance and the cute Buddha statue in the lobby made me want to snap a souvenir photo.
