“reasonable accommodation”
We had booked three nights, but after only two hours we had to leave, exhausted and utterly disappointed. The unit we chose was indeed roomy, yet it felt very old‑fashioned: the furniture had clearly seen better days, and one of the two bathrooms had a broken toilet seat. As non‑US guests, we might have looked more closely at the area, but we were shocked to find active railway tracks right next to the property, with trains rattling and honking constantly. That noise was not even the main problem. Inside the unit, the ventilation system produced an unbearable roar, like an industrial vacuum cleaner. We reported it, and a maintenance worker inspected the room. He tried adjusting the AC settings, but nothing changed. He explained that the property was old and that this issue existed in all rooms across all three buildings, and he himself had been surprised by how outdated the place was when he first started working there. It was simply impossible to expect a decent night’s sleep under those conditions. We had to abandon our plans, find another place, and make another exhausting trip with our two kids. One of our children has ASD and is highly sensitive to unusual and excessive noise, so these unexpected changes made life much harder for him and the whole family. The property refused to refund our payment or offer any compensation for the considerable inconvenience and distress. It was deeply disappointing.
