The pool is a rare bonus for a hostel and the owners, Sofia and Maria, go the extra mile for guests – I saw them in action with other travelers. I only wish I could have stayed longer.

The family now running Esquina Lejana runs the place with genuine warmth, making you feel right at home and even bringing me back a few weeks later. With breakfast and kitchen access included, the value is hard to beat, and the location in Marquetalia feels authentic and far quieter than central Palomino. The building was still a bit rundown – cheap rooms and bathrooms reflect that – and you’ll see paint cans and tools around as the owners work on upgrades, but the charm is already there.

The place is a little out of town, but that makes it feel special and super relaxing. The family that runs it are warm and welcoming, and the price is a great deal. I’d definitely come back.
