From the start we were in touch with the host, who was very friendly and accommodated us quickly, around 12 pm. He suggested a festival that was happening during our visit. The accommodation was about 3 minutes from the train stop, very comfortable and quiet. We enjoyed our stay and felt the authentic Japanese vibe. Everything was available, from cards to shower gels, so we didn’t need to bring anything. Our room had air‑conditioning, a fan, was very spacious and comfortable. A winter blanket was also provided, which we used because it was quite cold at night. The room was large and roomy, and a diary was available where we left a note for the kind host.

The owner is very nice; we left our luggage around 3 pm and he said it was fine, so we could relax and not worry. The whole place only has one bathroom, and since we stayed on the upper floor we had to go downstairs to use it.

Kenji‑san is an amazing host and, above all, a wonderful person. The accommodation matched the description exactly, and the room itself was even larger than expected. The location is outstanding. Be sure to eat at Saganoya and Banban while you’re there.

The room is near the train station but far from Kyoto’s center. It was too pricey for a 15‑square‑meter room with a thin mattress; they added an extra 20 €/night for a child, and the three of us squeezed into a tiny space. The mattress was so thin we woke up sore. We had to share a toilet with two other rooms! The walls and floor are thin wood, so we had to be very gentle to avoid making noise, yet I could still hear what people were saying in the next room, and his snoring was loud all night. At over 100 €/night it’s overcharged; the owner would be a millionaire renting out three tiny rooms at such an exorbitant price. I’ll never return.
