Central location. Friendly staff.well appointed and warm room, which was especially nice during a cold and wet spell! We only had breakfast meals at the Royal Standard. There was a good selection on the menu and the member of the team who served us was cheerful and informative. All very pleasant so nothing to report

Checkin was easy, room was pretty and comfortable and it's an ideal location. En suite was lovely and clean and everything seemed to work. Would recommend for a night like we did. The breakfast menu was very good and what I had (scrambled egg on sourdough with black pudding) very tasty. Liked the water and the coffee bags in the room. It was a bit confusing as I thought breakfast was included but perhaps I missed something Also the window in the room is clearly single-glazed - it looks pretty historic so maybe there's some restrictions but it does mean you can hear the road quite clearly
