We arrived very late and communication broke down, but our hosts Suliman, his daughter and grandson were very hospitable and prepared an excellent meal without any pre-warning. They maintained that attitude throughout our stay. Suliman also took us to a nearby wadi and then to a restaurant, acting as an excellent guide.
The room offers a great view, and the staff are very good.
“Lokaal, authentiek op een van de mooiste plekken van Oman, waar je heel gastvrij wordt ontvangen.”
The view is beautiful. You look into the gorge and at the mountains of Jebl Shams. The cottage is thoughtfully decorated with nice local details.
“If I ever travel to Jebel Shams again, I will 100% stay here.”
I chose this spot because it’s ideal for visiting Jebel Shams; I had originally booked a luxury resort an hour away but decided to stay closer to the mountain and experience Omani hospitality. Suleiman owns and runs the place, though you’ll meet several family members who serve breakfast and dinner daily. The view is breathtaking at sunrise, sunset, and night. I met other guests and chatted until late. It’s perfect for solo travelers, couples, or a group of friends, and it’s literally metres from the start of the Balcony Walk and the canyon hike, making it a great spot to rest after a day of adventures. The only tip is to drive a 4WD to ease getting in and out, and to research your route; I drove from Al Ain in the UAE and Google unexpectedly took me off‑roading, and there can also be a lot of road construction along the way.
“Over priced”
The location is incredible and the owner is lovely, but the place is totally horrible and overpriced. The two rooms with glass doors overlook the carpark, the food is super basic and extra, there’s no fridge, only small water bottles, one bedside table, no reading lights, and it’s not quite as shown online. I thought I was treating myself for the price but ended up feeling very ripped off; there are plenty of other accommodations nearby with better value and views.
