The location was excellent—very central yet far from the hustle and bustle, the room stayed very quiet, and parking was available at the back, no issues at all.

I spotted a lovely pub downstairs and the room was clean and easy to access, nothing else to complain about.

The spot was great, parking came free, the room was a good size and clean, staff were friendly, and you could hear some noise from the pub in the evening, which was expected since it’s a pub; one night we stayed during quiz night and it was pretty loud, so if you’re there for a music night expect even more noise, but it’s still a pub so no complaints. The only problem was that there is no radiator in the bathroom, so it can be cold in winter, and there’s nowhere to hang or dry towels, plus there’s no mirror except in the bathroom.

The Black Horse Inn is a pub just outside the city wall with only a few rooms. The rooms are surprisingly large and well furnished. The bathroom is very large and decorated with great tiles. Check‑in was very simple, and a parking space was reserved for us. The Black Horse is dog‑friendly, as is the pub. Every evening there are events in the pub, which you can hear 1:1 from the room; but they are transparently communicated and they finish exactly on the minute as announced. We joined the pub quiz night and it was one of the highlights of our trip. The location is great, you’re close to all of York’s sights.
