Offering panoramic views across the Gulf of Naples, the San Francesco al Monte is a restored 16th-century monastery. It features a seasonal panoramic garden with pool (available for an additional fee). The San Francesco is located at the foot of the hill leading to Sant'Elmo Castle and the Certosa di San Martino Museum. The hotel is a 2-minute walk from the Corso Vittorio Emanuele Funicular Railway stop. Rooms here all have views over the bay, with Mount Vesuvius in the background. They are all air conditioned and come with satellite TV, a minibar and a private bathroom with shower or bath. Breakfast is buffet style and is served in La Terrazza dei Barbanti restaurant on the 4th floor. You can also make use of Mediterranean cuisine at lunch and dinner.

The view is terrific, especially from the middle and top terraces. The first room assigned had a faulty A/C and looked very dated; I had to fight with staff for over 1 ½ hours to switch me to another available room, which was a stressful and unnecessary hassle. Breakfast was just okay and the service felt warm. Beds were very firm, common in Europe, but I also found a bug crawling in the room on two consecutive days.

A stunning property that feels like a Spanish paradise, offering comfort, tranquility and a break from the chaotic world of Naples below. The hotel has been thoughtfully and sympathetically renovated, giving a clear sense of its history, and there are plenty of interesting artworks. Toiletries, sheets and towels were excellent quality, adding to the luxe feel. I loved the cloistered main atrium and the spectacular terrace views. Breakfast was a bit lacking compared to other hotels we stayed at; the hotel felt short‑staffed and tables often waited to be cleared. A wedding on the seventh floor surprised us on one day, and it’s disappointing that the pool closes before the end of September.

An incredibly nice hotel with great views. The reception staff were very sweet, especially Valerio, who was great at giving advice and helping us print ferry tickets and book taxis. The rooftop terrace with pool and view was lovely! Morning coffee was lukewarm, bacon was tough and bland, and there was no juice—just a kind of concentrate‑based drink. The staff’s English was questionable, making it hard to explain what we wanted.
