The location is excellent! I booked a private room and it was lovely, spacious, and had a comfortable bed. The staff was very helpful and the hostel itself was very quiet given its location. The air conditioning in the room cannot be turned off, so it can get quite cold; there are extra blankets if needed, but I still found it a bit chilly at night.

The place sits right where you want to be and the staff are genuinely nice, the whole building is kept tidy. The showers, though, left a lot to be desired – water pressure was weak and the temperature was all over the place. I also wish they organized more group activities so guests could mingle a bit more.

Location is spot‑on – just steps from the lagoon, marina, shops and even a Woolworths and McDonald’s. The pool area is pleasant and the staff are always ready to help. The room itself was cramped, which I knew going in, but I also ended up with a bunch of itchy insect bites that kept me scratching for days. It was an uncomfortable side note to an otherwise great stay.

Everyone at the front desk was upbeat and seemed happy to be there, which made checking in easy. The only downside was the air‑conditioning that rattled loudly in the background – I get that it’s a big building, but it was hard to ignore.

Everything about my stay was fantastic – the owner was incredibly kind and the whole team felt caring and attentive. The location can’t be beat; step out the front door and you’re in the middle of Cairns’ restaurants, shops, the beautiful esplanade, free BBQs and parks. As an older solo traveler I felt safe and met lots of friendly guests from all over, and my private room was clean, neat and reasonably priced. I’m already planning to return every year.
