B&B Downham Hall

The location was outstanding, and the property felt great. The garden is the real highlight, absolutely stunning, and it’s no wonder it’s used for weddings. The views from every corner of the hotel are impressive. Unfortunately, the electrical switches for the radiators were broken, so the radiators ran all night. Knowing this beforehand would have let us bring a fan. My partner asked for a fan and the staff supplied one, but it still took us about two hours to fall asleep because of the heat. The bed itself wasn’t very comfortable, and for the price of a single night we were underwhelmed. We also paid for breakfast to be included. When we went to breakfast, we could only pick one item from the menu and the full English version wasn’t available; we had to pay an extra £2 for it. This wasn’t explained when I chose breakfast included, which felt a bit cheeky.

“comfortable room. excellent food. service charge for roast dinnner was a surprise”

The food was excellent, especially the Sunday roast which was very tasty. Breakfast was also good. The room was clean and comfortable. The bottled water in our room was very warm, and the water that came with our Sunday roast was served in a bottle but was warm too. A jug of lemon water with ice would have been better.

A beautiful countryside location. The house, which is also a wedding venue, was gorgeous. Nothing negative – it was lovely.

The building is beautiful, the location is fabulous, and the gardens are wonderful. Everything was liked.
