“Winter weekend getaway - hiking, jogging, site-seeing.”
Convenient spot if you’re doing the Tongariro Alpine Crossing or any nearby trails. Stunning views of the mountains (Tongariro & Ngauruhoe) and their snowy winter cloaks. I was caught off guard by the “no bed linen” policy in my room. Was it my duty to read all the “fine‑print”? Yes. But this detail wasn’t front‑and‑center, and it was the first time in all my travels that I’d seen this, so it could have been a problem if I hadn’t packed plenty of winter‑warm clothes to compensate.
Clean with good facilities and friendly staff. The room is small but acceptable for the price.
“Great location”
The bed was comfortable and the bathrooms were tidy with plenty of stalls. It’s only a 20‑minute drive from Tongariro, which is convenient, and I’d stay here again. The downside is that check‑in is only between 2‑6 pm, which is inconvenient if you’re hiking and want to arrive earlier or later for a single‑night stay.
“No network so good detox with friends. Good memories overall.”
The room was clean and had heaters that were adequate. The kitchen and washroom were not too far from the room, but you still have to walk or run in the cold weather at night, which is a bit inconvenient. Still, the services and cleanliness of both spots were pretty good. Since it’s 0 degrees at night, it’s a bit of a hassle to go to the washroom and the kitchen because they’re not close to the rooms. You don’t get any network on your phone and the WiFi is paid and flaky, so you can’t rely on it. Food options are limited because you have to drive 15–20 km to the nearest town for food and groceries.
“Worth it :)”
The place is practically next to the shuttle that takes you to Tongariro trekking, and the bathrooms, kitchen and showers are spotless. The gaming room is a great spot to relax when it’s empty, but the room itself feels a bit cramped and the price is a touch steep for just one night. You’re charged for Wifi, which is fine, but the connection is terrible so you never know how much data you’re using.
