“We will come back!”
We spent one week with Cat and Shark and it was such a wonderful time! The hotel is charmingly located in the small village of Yomase, with a ski slope just a few steps from the front door. You can rent equipment from the owner or from a rental shop, and you’ll need to buy lift tickets 8 minutes away on foot for a little extra cost. They’re less than half an hour from the Ilyama Shinkansen station, a direct train from Tokyo, and will pick you up from the station for a small fee. Every day there’s a free shuttle to Nozawa Onsen town if you want to ski there, and most other transport in the area (for example, to visit the local monkeys) can be arranged with the owner for a small fee. We had a room and half board. The food was delicious, fresh, and healthy. Note that, like many ski chalets in Japan, this place has a shared toilet and onsen. There is plenty of space, everything is kept clean and well stocked with toiletries, and you can do laundry on site. The couple that owns the establishment is incredibly friendly and we were genuinely sad to leave.
