The Budget Hôtel Weber - Strasbourg Centre Gare is located near the train station and Petite France district, 10 minutes' walk away. Guest rooms feature private or shared bathrooms, and the hotel is 100% non-smoking. A studio with oven, stove, and fridge is available. Four tram lines (A, B, C, D) provide easy city access; the cathedral is a 20-minute walk.

Location: 500 m from the train station and a kilometer and a half from the cathedral. Physical reception: there was always someone attending, which is appreciated. Price: at least in September, considering that staying in Strasbourg isn’t cheap, the price is really competitive, especially since it’s next to the station. Room size: good. No towels: although the hotel warns you beforehand, in the century we live in it doesn’t seem acceptable that a non‑hostel accommodation doesn’t provide at least one large towel per person. No kitchen or microwave: supposedly there is one, but having a kitchen that’s only open to the public from 18 h to 20 h (that’s what the hotel says when you book) seems absurd. Under‑utilization without sense. Tobacco smell: every time I returned to the hotel (also when checking in) a blast of concentrated tobacco smell hit me, very unpleasant. No wardrobe (only a wall hanger with three hooks) and no pillow (two cushions per bed that make a makeshift). The window didn’t close properly, so the noise from the tram and the street was somewhat annoying. The shower: you either shower facing the plastic curtain or flood the whole bathroom every time you shower.

The location is perfect—just 500 m from the train station and 1.5 km from the cathedral, ideal if you, like me, prefer visiting Alsatian villages without paying for a tour or renting a car. The reception is in person and has a very wide opening hour, which is a plus for a place that often lacks front desk. The price is very reasonable (at least in September) considering the good location and that Strasbourg isn’t cheap. The room is a good size. Details fall short: there are no pillows, although you can grab cushions… I think pillows cost 10 €. There’s no wardrobe. The IKEA nightstands cost 10 € each, so buying a wardrobe from IKEA wouldn’t be much more expensive. There are no bathroom amenities, no TV, no towels—especially the towels. The hotel warns you about this, but in the century we live in it seems unacceptable that a non‑hostel accommodation doesn’t provide a basic bath towel. There’s also no microwave, which is common in this type of lodging. Noise is an issue: the room is on the street level, so people and the tram are inevitable. The shower is shared; you have to go up three floors to shower, and the toilet is on another floor—building organization is a nonsense. Sometimes, as soon as you open the door after coming back from the street, you get a blast of condensed tobacco smell that’s very unpleasant; this should be seriously addressed. In short, a very good option if you only use the hotel to sleep and spend all day touring the area, but it fails on many details that could be fixed with a low investment.

The place was very clean, though it had a minimalist setup, which was acceptable for the price. The downside was that the top floor was quite noisy.

Arrival possible at 23:00, close to the station. No soundproofing—feels like you’re sleeping on the street. No soap in the shared bathrooms, even though it was listed in the ad.
