The lodge’s location is the highlight—it’s in the medicine village, close to the town center and a few minutes’ walk from Praia do Cachorro, Praia do Meio, and Praia da Conceição. Andrea’s friendliness, who welcomed us and tidied the room every day, also stands out. Plus, the breakfast prepared by Dona Cris is sensational, with fresh tapioca and couscous, various cakes, fruit, etc. Despite the positives, the lodge doesn’t deserve a 4‑star rating on Booking. The double bed is actually two single beds together, which is uncomfortable for a couple. The shower in the room barely heated the water. And although the breakfast was delicious, it was served at another lodge a few minutes away.

The room was big and spotless, but the place is right behind a bar, so it’s noisy. The door is all glass, so you can’t get any privacy – other guests walk right past your room all the time. Breakfast isn’t served there; you have to walk five minutes to get it.

Location was spot on, Andreia was super friendly and helpful, breakfast was great. The city itself is beautiful, people are welcoming, and the tours were fantastic. I couldn’t find anything to complain about.

The spot was great, close to everything. The room was big, bed comfy. Breakfast was good at a nearby place, staff were friendly. But Villa Carmen was nothing like the description – a narrow corridor with three rooms, a tiny dirty pool you can’t use. At the front there’s a music bar that gets loud at night, and at the back a private house with kids and adults making noise; you have to keep your doors shut. No outdoor space to step out or sit. First day no hot water or soap.
