The pool is large, beautiful and exceptionally clean. The setting is wonderful, peaceful and surrounded by nature – very relaxing and picturesque. Breakfast is excellent in quality and variety, with fresh, natural products. The room was spotless. Floors and tiles were very well maintained and clean. The bed was especially comfortable and of very good quality. A lovely final touch was the small farewell gifts we received when leaving – some delicious biscuits and a little sachet of beautifully scented lavender. It was a thoughtful gesture and a very nice way to end our stay.
We had mixed feelings about our stay, as the property itself has many wonderful qualities, but unfortunately our experience was affected by a few significant issues. Being surrounded by nature inevitably means there are quite a lot of insects, so anyone who is particularly uncomfortable around insects should be aware of this. There were also many bees around the outdoor breakfast area. To be fair, the staff had clearly made efforts to keep them away, but at times there were so many that we preferred to have our breakfast indoors. Communication was extremely difficult, as the staff we interacted with did not speak English, while unfortunately we do not speak French. We completely understand that we were in France and do not expect everyone to speak English, but in a hotel welcoming international guests, some ability to communicate in English would have made things considerably easier. The most disappointing part of our stay, however, was our arrival. After a long journey, we entered the property and saw the parking area, as well as another road that appeared to lead towards reception. There was no sign indicating that cars were not allowed to proceed towards reception, so we naturally drove in that direction, intending simply to unload our luggage closer to reception and then move the car back to the parking area. A gentleman suddenly came out and addressed us very angrily in French, effectively shouting at us to return to the parking area. Given that there was no clear sign and that we had simply made an understandable mistake, we found his manner unnecessarily rude and extremely unprofessional. We later understood that luggage carts were available for guests to transport their belongings themselves, but nobody offered to assist us with our luggage or explain the arrangement in a welcoming way. This was a real shame because the property itself is beautiful, clean and clearly very well cared for.
