Hotel Urgaín

“Lovely location in the Basque region of Spain”

The spot was perfect, tucked in a charming hill village on the way north toward the coast and French border, with free underground parking that was a bit cramped; the adjacent bar/restaurant, part of the hotel, was excellent. We stayed overnight while heading to Calais from Southern Spain and would return for a longer visit to explore more. The hotel signage was missing and parking was tricky for large cars; the reception never opened, so we had to use the bar to check in and out, yet we'd definitely stay again.

The area was very quiet and well‑situated for what we were looking for. The room, while clean, was very basic with old furniture, a small TV, and no air conditioning (only a fan was provided). Breakfast was pricey for the quality, matching the room’s standard.

The surroundings were great, but the furniture hasn’t been updated in 30 years, at least in our room, and the beds need replacing. The beds were uncomfortable, though the staff were courteous and cleaning was adequate.

The location was convenient for our bike trip. The restaurant served tasty food and the bar offered a good breakfast for those who enjoy savory items. The bed was too soft for my liking but the size was fine for a single person.
