Kariappa House offers more than just lodging in Pondicherry—it feels like stepping into a home where old Tamil architecture, French touches, lovely courtyards, greenery, art, and antiques blend naturally. What sets it apart is the care put into preserving its character and fostering a peaceful, mindful lifestyle; it’s personal, unpretentious, and full of personality. Guests arrive and leave feeling connected to the house, its people, and the surrounding life—a lovely experience for anyone who values heritage, authenticity, and a slower pace. The approach might not be the most convenient, but once you get there, you find a quieter, more authentic side of Pondicherry that invites you to slow down, soak up the atmosphere, and experience the neighborhood as it truly is, rather than just passing through. Because it was a busy, noisy weekend, I was glad it was much quieter in this area.

A charming heritage home that transports you back in time; the staff are warm and sweet, and their dogs Jazzie and Cassie stole our hearts. The location was a bit hard to reach, but the effort was worth it. Breakfast was lovely, wholesome, and served with great warmth. They could clarify the food booking policy beforehand; we arrived hungry in the afternoon and it would have helped to have a small meal or welcome snacks, which apparently requires prior notice.

The ambience matched my expectation of a traditional feel; Ramji, in particular, was very helpful and gave us a quick tour of the property upon arrival. The approach roads were a bit tricky, and if you have a ground‑floor room facing the street you’ll hear traffic noise—maybe that’s part of the ambience. :)

The traditional architecture and furniture were well restored, and the cooking was excellent. The ambience was pleasant, though the approach is a single lane in a congested part of Puducherry.
