Our room had a wonderful view of the garden and the river. The accommodation is on a heavily trafficked street, which feels a bit dangerous on foot, but from the room we didn’t hear the traffic.

The location was great—across the street from an old abbey and right on the river—and it was nice to explore the castle too. The room was spacious, furnished with lovely antiques, and the shower had excellent water pressure. John, the manager, was very helpful with information about Galway and a great host. We’d love to return for one of the live jousting tournaments.

We appreciated that staff Jacqueline and Johnny stayed in the background but were available when needed; they were very helpful and answered all our questions, making it feel like we had the castle to ourselves. The Salmon room was spacious, offered a lovely view over the River Clare, and had a keep outside the window, plus seeing Lady Elizabeth, the castle’s cat. It would have been nice to have a cooked breakfast option, though the continental breakfast was very good, and tissues in the bathroom would have been appreciated.

What a wonderful stay. As you drive through the gates you’re greeted by a stunning manor house set in beautiful grounds. Inside it’s just as impressive, and the room was large with everything we needed, even a bottle of red wine waiting for us. Breakfast was continental but offered a great variety; the scones were especially delicious. The staff were all very friendly, and I would definitely stay there again.

The breakfast looked gorgeous, a continental spread that hit the spot, and the tea pots were lovely too. I couldn’t find anything to nitpick.
