The welcome, the rooms, the setting and the breakfast were all excellent.

We had a mixed experience at Gorée Suites. The property itself was beautiful, peaceful, and exactly as shown online, making it a perfect spot for a quiet retreat. However, the rooms were smaller than we had imagined. Communication proved tough because almost none of the staff spoke English; the only person who spoke comfortably was the warm, welcoming Guinean‑Bissau lady who checked us in. Some staff were pleasant, others not so friendly, so service varied. The food was acceptable, but breakfast was underwhelming, and the restaurant was often closed with very few options. It’s best to plan meals ahead or know nearby alternatives. The biggest let‑down was the total absence of support during a tense police incident. We didn’t return to the hotel until the next day, yet no staff checked on us or offered help. We had to ask a friend in Senegal to contact the hotel, and the only reply was a brief phone call that offered no real assistance. No one tried to pick us up from the police station or help us get back safely, leaving us to find our own way home. As guests, we expected far more care and concern, especially in an emergency.

The staff were attentive, but the manager’s service quality was lacking.

The place feels like a tiny oasis—quiet, thoughtfully designed and nicely decorated—while the staff were polite. Unfortunately there was no hot water even after we reported it, and the toilet would whine for five minutes each flush, which was a let‑down.
