The staff always greeted me with a smile and were very helpful, informative, and had a good sense of humor; the only downside was ants coming in—there’s nothing you can do in a rural area 😆, and there wasn’t enough space to hang clothes and towels.

The building is gorgeous, the staff are super friendly and efficient, and they always met every request I had. Dinner food quality is excellent, the river excursions were beautiful with a meticulous guide, and you can actually spot many kinds of animals, some of the most important in Borneo. The transfer service arranged kindly by Sepilok to the lodge and then from the lodge to Semporna is essential and works well. For breakfast, the number of dishes depends on how many people are there; one day I got three courses, another day just white bread with an egg. There were issues with the bathroom drain water and generally with drinking water during meals. Fruit isn’t served at breakfast, which is a shame for a place like this—you’ll miss out on all the fruit. Bring snacks if you want something special, since there’s no bar nearby, only a tiny market that I only discovered later. I don’t recommend the Jungle Trekking; it’s just a few meters from the lodge, close to the road, the guide didn’t tell me much and there was no provision of any sticks or machetes that might be needed in the rainforest.

The location is great next to the river, and you can do boat tours to see animals, with dinner buffet included. The buffet is limited in quantity; if you arrive last, nothing will be left. The pillows are as hard and thick as a rock, and there are no sheets—just a wool blanket that’s too hot.

The place is perfectly situated on the river, rooms are clean, and the tours are excellent for a fair price. There is no water from the taps in the evenings.

The property is inexpensive and offers great value for money. We booked the two‑day excursion package and everything went smoothly, and the transfers were punctual.
