“Lieve mensen, mooie natuur maar door achterstallig onderhoud wel minder mooi dan het had kunnen zijn”
The food was amazing—Angie and her husband turned every meal into a luxurious experience, clearly loving to cook and putting a lot of effort into it. With us as the only guests, it felt like an exclusive hotel. We came for the nature, and the spectacular views and the guides they arranged showed us far more than we could have found ourselves. Rubin and especially Robert took our stay to another level; Robert, Angie’s father, was the friendliest man we’ve ever met on a trip, and together with his wife Beck he even helped us get to our next accommodation, sharing wonderful stories and deep knowledge of the area. The village turned out to be safer and more interesting than expected, perfect for a leisurely stroll on a free day, and the resident dog added extra amusement. We stayed alone and perhaps a night too long; three nights would have been ideal to explore Crooked Tree’s nature and culture and to visit Lamanai, leaving the extra day rather dull. The lakeside scenery was unfortunately not at its best this time of year. There isn’t much else to do, so we filled the day with birdwatching and reading. At times it was hard to locate staff, giving the place a slightly deserted feel, and the upkeep around the main building showed signs of the high season being over. It didn’t bother us, but it was something we hadn’t anticipated.
“Sehr gute Unterkunft (nicht nur) für Birdwatcher”
The lodge is perfect for birdwatchers, especially with the free canoe that let us paddle out to the lagoon three times for birding, set on a beautiful property with abundant avian life and great lagoon views. We booked breakfast and dinner separately for all three days; the meals were tasty and surprisingly filling even though they were single‑course. Angie, the host, helped us arrange a boat trip and a guided walk. Our Cabana #5 was spacious, nicely decorated and had a comfortable bed. We hadn’t asked about the meal prices beforehand and were taken aback by how pricey breakfast turned out to be.
“Lovely Lodge in a Great Location”
I had a great stay at this lodge, which is right on a lagoon in a wildlife conservation area. The village next door has a lot of character and history. Our host, Angie, was super friendly and accommodating - she made sure we had everything we needed. We spent some relaxing time canoeing and lounging in the hammock on our veranda, and the breakfasts were generous and delicious. It's also a great spot to explore the surrounding area, including Altun Ha.
“Perfect birding location with stunning views whilst staying in a private well designed comfortable cabin.”
The location was stunning and the bedroom was very comfortable – perfect for birding and felt more like a homestay than a hotel. Angie, the owner and hostess, was amazing and very accommodating with trip ideas, transport, food and living on the property. The bedroom needed a new shower, but the rest of the room was excellent – a seat by the small “crooked tree” lagoon would have been a nice addition.
“Perfect spot for nature lovers”
This lodge is amazingly located right on the lagoon, and I spent hours just watching the water birds - I even spotted a Jabiru one morning. The staff were super helpful, Angie sorted out my transport and meals, and even organized some awesome boat tours for me. My bungalow was really nicely decorated and felt cozy.
