I stayed in a beautifully restored old Chinese building that felt very authentic and aesthetic; the bed was super comfy and the shower delivered hot water with great pressure. The staff were helpful despite speaking very little English, relying heavily on Google Translate, and they arranged luggage transfer without any problems. However, the hotel sits outside Yunnan Nationalities Village and near Dan Chi Lake, so a taxi to Kunming center takes about 35 minutes, which was a bit inconvenient. It would have been better to stay in the city center and travel to those spots if needed.
