The location was hard to navigate because the old narrow streets are laid out in a confusing pattern. From our experience and information from some locals, everyday maintenance was clearly lacking.

My stay at this hotel had its positives and negatives. The owners were lovely, and the breakfasts were good, which were definite highlights. However, I found the room to be too small, and I was disappointed to discover that there were no handicap facilities available. Overall, it was an average experience, but with some notable drawbacks.

I had a mixed experience at this hotel. The bed was comfortable, which was a plus, but I was the only guest and the room I got wasn't what was shown. To make matters worse, I encountered several issues, including a shower that didn't work, a TV remote that didn't work, and the staff seemed overwhelmed, with only one old lady working who didn't seem aware of the booking. I felt bad bothering her, but it was clear that the hotel was understaffed and struggling to manage.

I was initially charmed by this hotel's quaint, turn-of-the-century boutique style, located within the beautiful Chautauqua Institute. However, my stay quickly turned into a nightmare due to the hotel's desperate need for renovation, thorough repairs, and deep cleaning. The owner, Helen Edington, promised a full refund of our $446 stay if I removed my previous review, which I did, but unfortunately, I never received a penny back.

I had a wonderful stay at The Spencer, a beautiful old hotel that felt more like staying at someone's very large house. The beds were comfortable, the breakfast was wonderful, and the staff were friendly, making for a very welcoming atmosphere. The fellow visitors I met during my stay were also friendly, adding to the hotel's charm. However, as with any old hotel, I did notice that the floors creaked in places and the walls could be a bit thin, but this didn't detract from my overall experience.
