Ivanhoe Hotel

The Ivanhoe is full of character and a real journey back in time. The food was good and the service was friendly and engaging. Great location too. I thought it was very good value for money. The only reason I haven’t rated our stay a 10 is because I requested a twin room, twice - once on this platform and once via WhatsApp but the bed was made up as a King when we arrived quite late. I really tried to pre-empt this happening so it was disappointing. On top of the inconvenience, we ended up with a mish-mash of bedding between us for the 2 nights we were there as that was all there was available at the time

“A real gem.”

This is the top spot to stay in Darjeeling. We were welcomed warmly, the entire property is immaculate, and our room was spacious, well maintained, and spotless. There was plenty of hot water, a heater, and an electric blanket for colder nights. Breakfast was superb and abundant. We loved the heritage vibe and the friendly staff so much that we booked an extended stay. It’s also ideally located near The Mall and the observation point.

“I will definitely stay here again.”

Everything was excellent—the size of the room, the atmosphere, the comfort of the bed, the breakfast, and the shower's water pressure and temperature. Above all, the staff were wonderful. I am confident in recommending this hotel to others. It is unavoidable given the building's age, but the room tends to get stuffy and humid during the monsoon season. Installing an exhaust fan in the bathroom might help alleviate the issue somewhat

“nostalgic hotel in Darjeeling”

We arrived drenched in a stormy night, and the staff handed us tea and turned on the heater so we could dry off and warm up in our room. Breakfasts are generous, offering both Indian and Western options. The room is roomy with a firm yet comfortable bed, and the location is spot‑on—just a 200‑metre walk to an observation point for the Himalayas, and many attractions are within walking distance, though you’ll need strong legs. All of this is wrapped up in a historic hotel full of nostalgia. The only downside is that taxis won’t take us to the entrance because it’s tucked into a ravine of small hotels and shops; once you know the route it’s a short walk off the main road, but it’s best not to arrive at night.

I stayed at this old‑style, beautiful hotel and it was a delight.
