The Amara Inn

The location was fine, yet the place smelled of paint and damp; the back looked like a dump, the shower grout was mouldy, the bathroom fan didn’t work, and the bedroom door lock was temperamental, causing us to miss a wedding because we were delayed. The beds were hard, the single bed was free‑standing, high, and close to the wall—my 4‑year‑old daughter could have fallen out; the area under the bed was very dirty, the shower head was low, there weren’t enough plug sockets, and the night‑time PIR lighting was insufficient. I wouldn’t give this place a 1*, but it needs massive improvement.

“Disappointed stay”

The location was good, but the hotel was very dated and needed decorating and updating; the room was a twin but not big enough for two twin beds, and the bathroom opened directly into the bed area. The toilet seat was cracked, there were no windows, the extractor fan didn’t work, the sink had only one tap with a hole where the other should have been, and there was no shower mat—slippery in the bath. The shower wouldn’t stay hanging, so I had to hold it; the carpets were stained, and there was no light in the corridor outside the room.

“Avoid, it’s cheap for a reason.”

I complained about a damp ceiling that smelled wet; the staff said it was fine, but I insisted it was a health hazard and asked to wait an hour for another room. Two hours later I demanded a change and the receptionist got annoyed before handing me keys to another room, which was filthy with dirt on the floors and no kettle. I checked out and booked a different hotel for the rest of my stay.

“Good location.”

The location was good and the room was tidy. We had a quiet and comfortable stay, but the receptionist was hard to understand most of the time, and the room door didn’t lock properly from the inside. Other than that, it was a good stay.
