The venue inside and out was stunning, and we loved our room (stayed in Lilly). The furnishings and décor created a wonderful atmosphere. We appreciated the small touches—sherry, chocolates, and cold milk. We’re incredibly grateful to the hosts for helping us during a health emergency; their quick response made a huge difference. The only minor issue was slightly low water pressure, but everything else outweighed that small bump.

The place was quiet and nice. On Saturday our beds and rooms weren’t cleaned. The owner had a sign in his kitchen saying “green ingaan,” so we couldn’t use the microwave to warm milk for coffee, and he didn’t refill our teas for Sunday.

The location was convenient, close to town. The room was very small and had no Wi‑Fi. I’d suggest adding extra blankets, as it gets very cold in winter in Parys.

The place was close to the local shops, but the owner, a white male, was extremely racist. He told me over the phone that the hotel was fully booked, yet a few units were available and I chose Unit 5. When we got there, he blocked the reception and started a racist rant, claiming the town was fully booked and asking if the ANC (Blacks) were in town. He also told me that there was no food in the rooms, especially no KFC or hot chips, which was insulting. He gave us a key that didn’t match the unit I had booked, and when I pointed it out he blamed it as an error. The accommodation was meant for two guests, but only one bath towel was provided, and no toilet paper was supplied, so we had to buy our own because I didn’t want to associate with him. The DStv picture channels were disabled and only the radio bouquet was available, and the coffee station wasn’t refilled. The next morning, when I raised all of this, he simply said it was all a mistake.
