“Like to be yelled at during your holidays? Then book this place ;)”

The location is really beautiful with an amazing view, and the two cats are very cute. The elderly woman running the hostel was very rude and yelled at everyone, as if we were her grandkids. On the last day of my stay, I returned from the beach in the afternoon and found all the food I had stored in the fridge gone and my bed cleaned out. I asked her and she said she just thought I was gone, even though I still had one more night. She returned my food without apologizing. On the day of checkout she yelled that I had to leave at 10 am, even though it was until 11 am. It is not an excuse for an older woman to treat guests this way.

The lady Yenifer tries to communicate as best she can even though she doesn’t speak English; she’s like a grandmother who attends to you as well as she can, keeps everything clean, and makes you as comfortable as possible. It seems she could use more help from someone else; a volunteer who could assist her occasionally would be appreciated. She’s a nice older woman who does everything. The shower in room A leaves the bathroom soaked after a shower. Also the kitchen in room A doesn’t work well; it takes a long time to heat up, and in the other rooms only one stove works, so cooking takes a bit longer.

I'm writing the review I wish I had read before booking! The most important thing to know is that Hostel on the Hill is not really a hostel. It is much more like a large guesthouse, and I think this should be made clearer to avoid misleading expectations. Simply changing the type of accommodation from “hostel” to “guesthouse” would already make a big difference in managing guests’ expectations.
