“Insecure.”
Although the room was accessed by key, there was no way to lock or secure the door from inside—no dead‑bolt or security chain. The room, located in the old gatehouse away from the main building, offered no personal security. Traveling alone, I could move furniture to block the door, but if I had been with my wife, we would never have stayed in that room.
The building was beautiful with well‑kept grounds, and I enjoyed strolling around the lake, watching swans, geese, and deer while sipping drinks and dinner. The staff were polite and helpful, and the décor reflected the building’s history, which I appreciated. Our second room had a comfortable king‑size bed, and breakfast was good. However, the first night we had a broken shower that flooded the bathroom, so the staff upgraded us free of charge to a nicer room for the second night. Overall, the house felt tired: cobwebs in the windows both inside and out, stained communal area carpets, and a shabby feel. I learned a bit about the house’s history on Google, which would interest guests if some information were displayed around the property.
“Great location and hotel beautiful grounds”
The location was great, and the gatehouse, far from the main hotel, had excellent parking. Barry at the gatehouse was lovely, and the pillows and bed were very comfortable. The only downside was the menu; my wife, a vegetarian and pescatarian who can’t eat pasta or rice, had trouble finding suitable options.
“Uncomfortable stay”
The bed was comfy, but the shower kept leaking heavily and the noise made it hard to sleep, so we left early. The room had no proper ventilation, the bedside wall light flickered, and the shower controls were hard to adjust.
“The whole place urgently needs a refurb or prices to be massively reduced”
The location was fine. Cobwebs were everywhere, bar chairs were broken, bar bench seals ripped, and the food quality was poor.
