“Gutes Zimmer, viele Treppen, super Lage”
We came as a family with a five‑year‑old and stayed two nights. The raid is easy to find and, though it’s in the Medina, it’s still near the edge so you don’t have to go too deep in. We were greeted by an older man who seemed a bit grumpy, but he carried our heavy luggage up to the top floor. Cookies and tea were offered while we filled out the check‑in form. A little later we met the owner, who seemed much nicer. We booked a large room that was on the top floor, which is a bit of a climb without an elevator; anyone with trouble climbing stairs should be careful. You’ll be out of breath going from the bottom to the top, even without luggage. The breakfast was typical Moroccan, as in any other riad, and coffee was unlimited. The room was very large but dark. The outlets were wobbly and some didn’t work, especially those below the TV, which is probably just a mandatory fixture. The bathroom’s cleanliness could be better, but it was adequate. The beds were fine. The riad’s courtyard is as beautiful as most riads. The location is great; you only walk a short distance to the market, which is fantastic. The big gate “Bab Boujloud” is just 5 minutes away, and the Chouara dye‑works are about 15‑20 minutes on foot, which sounds far but is fine if you’re already walking through the market. The riad has no parking, but nearby the “Fontaine Batha” offers a small parking garage where you can park cheaply and safely. We’d have liked to stay longer in Fès and would have chosen this riad again. The bathroom’s condition is not good; at least the toilet lid could be fixed. It wobbles, and the outlets are almost coming out of the wall when you pull the plug.
