Probably the best hotel in all of Scotland, with super friendly staff, good food and a cool bar – we’ll definitely come back.

The staff were friendly, but everything else was very tired and grubby.

The reception and bar service were solid, yet the bed could have been better, the towels were obviously old and worn, and breakfast needed improvement in presentation and taste.

The hotel feels old‑fashioned, like a trip back in time, and we had a great time; the staff were excellent, breakfast was good, and the bar was fantastic with tasty food, a great selection of mostly local whiskies, and a lively atmosphere that let our group mingle with other guests. It is dated, and some areas have a distinct odor; the towels were soaked in fabric softener, making it hard to dry off after a shower and the smell was overpowering. Apart from the ferry, there isn’t much nearby, so you’ll need a car or taxi, though biking might work for some. Despite the drawbacks, I’d definitely return.

The location was perfect for catching the ferry or arriving late, though it was pretty pricey; given that it’s only reachable by ferry, the cost makes sense with the limited options available.
