“Disappointing Stay and Lack of Transparency 宿泊形態の説明不足と残念な滞在”

I booked a single night at Kiunso in Yunotsu Onsen without meals, thinking it would be the same as my previous stays that included dinner and breakfast. I was surprised to learn that guests who skip meals are placed in a separate building a few minutes’ walk from the main ryokan, while those who book meals stay in the main building, which is much more convenient. At check‑in the staff only handed me a map and told me to find my room, without showing me personally. I had to walk back to the main building, dressed in a yukata, to use the public hot spring baths. Paying ryokan rates but getting a guesthouse‑like experience was frustrating, and I felt I was misled about the accommodation location. This stay really highlighted how Yunotsu hot spring accommodations operate, and it was a valuable lesson.

It was very quiet overall. Since it’s a machiya, you’ll eat out, but there are more places to eat now. Of course, for those who want to cook, the facilities are plenty. There were no particular issues.

The room was very large with a fully equipped kitchen, making it very comfortable for a family on vacation in the area. The village is quiet and pleasant to walk around, and the staff are kind and help you get to know the area. The onsen is beautiful but requires a few minutes’ walk because some rooms are not near it.

“サイコーでした”

The historic building felt surprisingly clean and comfortable, and the food was good; the proprietress was truly lovely. A few stink bugs were around because of the local environment, but that added a bit of character if you can accept it.
