The place was spotless, stylish, and tucked away in a lovely quiet spot, and the cafe even had decent food. Owner Jack made us feel right at home, was super friendly, and arranged surf lessons and bike rentals for us. Thanks a ton—we’re not ready to leave!

A cool, relaxed spot up on the upper floor.

The place is brand‑new, simple yet nicely decorated, with comfortable dorms that have plenty of storage, good hot‑water pressure, a quiet air‑conditioner and a remote control. It sits by the road but remains quiet and is only a few minutes from Taktak waterfall, several beaches, caves and surf spots. Owner Jake is very friendly, humorous and energetic, and the garden is lovely with a great rooftop view, yoga mat and some weights. However, the managers seem to focus mainly on the coffee/snack bar attached to the hostel, leaving guests to fend for themselves: luggage stored in the lobby, the bathroom and toilets not cleaned for five days (just a quick sweep and trash emptied every other night at 8 am), ants in the room and on the bed (likely from the trash), and no fridge, kettle, dishes or kitchen bin. There’s no place to spread out gear after the beach. We had to ask for toilet paper, a new water bottle for the fountain and brooms for bird droppings on the roof. The rooftop has huge potential but is neglected and not inviting for socialising; a parasol would improve the café terrace. Jake’s partner was rather unpleasant, barely acknowledging guests. My sneakers were stolen, and a small gesture like a complimentary coffee would have been appreciated. I’m sure Tangbo Surf Hostel will improve over time; it has great potential but needs better organization.

It’s a retreat spot because there aren’t many crowds and you can meet new people. Most stay for a few nights to see more; after three nights I booked three more in the south because I liked it so much. The whole family/owners are all super nice and the food tastes really good! The banana cake is almost a must‑try unless you’re allergic ;) The training option with yoga mats on the roof and the view is a lot of fun and gives extra motivation for enjoyment and relaxation. If I get to visit Siargao again in my life, I’ll stop by here again. Get your own impression of it.
