The hotel’s proximity to the port from which we had to depart the next day was a plus, but the floors were filthy; my daughter walked barefoot for a minute and came back with completely black feet. The sofa bed for the baby was terribly uncomfortable, the cushions were hard, and the pillowcases were rough paper. The autoclave kept clicking on and off all night, making sleep impossible, and the kitchen was so cramped that I couldn’t even step inside.

Maximo was a very generous host. We communicated via Google Translate and he provided all I asked for. The washing machine worked well; the hot water was hot; the air‑conditioner was effective; the fridge was cold. The bed was solid (how I like it!), and the toilet paper was of exceptionally good quality. The windows had no fly‑screens, so I either opened them and let mosquitoes and other insects in (which bit me) or kept them closed and endured stale air, which became a bit uncomfortable after the second day. The shower was so small that I couldn’t turn in it easily, and there was a little mould at the bottom. The street noise was dreadful: noisy vehicles and scooters whizzing by, ambulance sirens all day because the location was across the road from a few hospitals. The neighbour above scratched furniture across their floor during the night and early morning, disturbing my sleep. Breakfast was just a croissant and a coffee; since I like a big breakfast, I bought my own fruit, cereal, milk, and orange juice to supplement my needs.

Massimiliano is a wonderful host, caring and helpful. His breakfast is delicious, and the coffee is excellent. The room is just a few steps from the city center, restaurants, bars, and Palermo's historical sites. I highly recommend this host
