A great place right in central Kanadukathan, about 10 km from Karaikudi, where the staff treated us like family and even gave us extra checkout time to recover after a tiring day of sightseeing.

The location was unbeatable, but the dining options could have been broader; that’s the only drawback.

I stayed at Narayana Villas in Chettinad, a truly delightful place where the hosts, cooks, and all staff were exceptionally kind, offering welcome drinks, complimentary services, and even bicycles in the morning while arranging an auto to the railway station; they constantly checked on our well‑being and safety without us asking, making for a very pleasant and peaceful stay with warm, friendly people—exactly the experience you’d want.

I read a lot about the best ways to visit Karaikudi, but that was misleading; Kanadukathan is the ideal spot with tourist infrastructure and a charming village vibe for walks, and the hotel sits comfortably in the village center. The afternoon meals were fantastic, though dinner was limited to mostly dosa, a common trend in Tamil Nadu—if you want a proper rice or roti dinner, head to a pricier place. The breakfast was a tasty Tamil spread with eggs and toast. The room was spacious with a balcony where I could enjoy village life while sipping tea, and the AC worked well. The décor echoed nearby Chettiar mansions, fitting the locale, though it’s a newer build. However, there was no cupboard for storage, and the washbasin was outside the bathroom, which could bother some. No ATMs were nearby, they don’t accept cards, so bring cash or be ready to pay via UPI, which they do accept. The staff were friendly, helpful, and available, but they often seemed unaware of what was happening; only one lady, Gomathi, ran the show, and if she was absent, nothing got done.
