“Terrible stay, poor cleanliness, unreliable electricity and very poor guest service.”
The location was fine. Unfortunately, our stay at Kalyan Villa Heritage Stay was very disappointing. The property has potential, but the lack of cleanliness, basic facilities, and especially the owner’s attitude made the experience extremely unpleasant. Upon arrival we were given a room we had not booked, and we were told that the room we had actually booked was not ready, so we had to move rooms the next day. The initial room was not particularly clean, with cobwebs, and there were only two hangers. Shower pressure was extremely poor, making it difficult to shower. Even more concerning, when we asked to use a courtesy room to shower before catching our train, the bathroom was absolutely disgusting, with feces on the floor and a horrendous smell—completely unacceptable for a paid accommodation. The biggest practical issue was the electricity: power would cut off unexpectedly at random times, leaving us without air conditioning and unable to charge phones, including during the night on multiple occasions, causing us to wake up sweating. When we raised this with the owner, Mr Ganysham, he blamed the city. While power cuts can happen in Udaipur, the frequency was extremely disruptive and severely affected our stay. The owner himself was the biggest problem; Mr Ganysham was extremely rude and intimidating throughout. We were given a 10:30 pm curfew, which is something we have never experienced at a hotel before. On one occasion, when we arrived back later than this, we received a message from him making it clear that our late arrival was unacceptable.
