Located in Toronto's vibrant Annex district, the Madison Manor Boutique Hotel is a charming Victorian house adjacent to the Madison Avenue Pub. The hotel offers free WiFi in its restaurant, Victorian-style rooms with cable TV and coffee machines, and suites with fireplaces. The pub features 11 bars, 192 beer taps, billiards tables, and dart boards, just a 4-minute walk from Spadina subway station.

The place had a charming vibe and the staff were super friendly, and it was pretty clean most of the time. It’s right next to ROM and the pub next door is handy, but the hotel feels like it’s stuck in a fraternity‑sorority row in a college town, so it’s a bit of a time capsule that could use a minor facelift. The building is old and the bed wasn’t the most comfortable, which is understandable for a place that’s been around for a while.

I was just a short walk from the metro, but there was no elevator in the building.

The spot was great, but I wish I’d known ahead of time that I’d be getting a basement room; it was fine for what I needed, though.

The only downside was the location of the property.
