“Une adresse de caractère au cœur de la Médina”
The house had a lot of charm, the terrace view was great, breakfast was good, Souad’s massage was nice, and the staff were kind, but the rooftop service quality could use improvement.

Perched directly on the ancient walls of the Kasbah, Dar Nour feels less like a guest house and more like an ethereal, fever‑dream escape that redefines the idea of getting away. From the moment you step through its discreet wooden door off the winding alleys, the pace of the world seems to shift. The name “House of Light” lives up to its promise in almost spiritual ways: golden hour isn’t just a time, it’s a mood. Light pours through antique stained‑glass nooks, spilling over hand‑painted zellige tiles, woven Berber rugs, book‑filled alcoves, and curated vintage art that seems to have been gathered over three lifetimes of effortless cool. The rooftop terrace is pure magic; standing there with the ocean breeze on your face, you’re treated to an impossible vista of the Medina’s whitewashed rooftops, the endless Strait of Gibraltar, and the hazy outline of Spain on the horizon. As the sun sets and the call to prayer echoes across the city while lighthouse beams flicker on the sea, time seems to stop. Each room feels like its own intimate universe—cozy textures, glowing lanterns, crisp linens, and the faint, unmistakable scent of cedar and orange blossom lingering in the air. Add the incredible home‑cooked Moroccan dinners, prepared with daily market finds and served under candlelight on the terrace or in tucked‑away dining nooks, and you’ll see why guests often extend their stay from a couple of days to two weeks. Dar Nour is the ultimate cheat code to Tangier.

The location in the Kasbah is stunning, with sweeping views of Tangier’s main bay and even Spain beyond. The rooftop dining and bar are definite highlights. The rooms I stayed in, along with a couple of others, were all beautifully finished, with personal touches that made it feel like a beloved, curated home rather than a generic hotel. The food was fantastic, with a buffet served every evening. The only downside was that if you chose not to pay for the buffet, there were no other dinner options available in the evenings.

The house feels like a living work of art—every detail is polished, the décor is a collection of second‑hand pieces from Tangier, paintings, drawings, books, and more, creating a genuine artist’s home. Breakfast is plentiful, diverse, and the ingredients are excellent. The evening buffet is superb, and the view is breathtaking, arguably the most beautiful view of Tangier overlooking the bay and the Kasbah. The staff are amazing, always attentive and caring, making sure you feel comfortable at all times. Simply wonderful, and I hope to return soon.
