The Charterhouse, a family‑run Edwardian gem in Torquay, sits 100 m from the seafront, Livermead beach, and Cockington Valley Country Park. Mature gardens feature a patio, lawn, and seasonal heated pool. Rooms are light, airy, some with sea views. Breakfast offers continental, full English, vegetarian options. The location was excellent, the bed was comfortable, breakfast was excellent, and the owners were very accommodating.

The garden was beautiful, the breakfast delightful, the hosts Lisa & Christophe were extremely warm and did everything to make us comfortable; Lisa suggested a walk to Cockington, which was indeed a lovely spot, but Google Maps points to the back of the hotel while the entrance is on Cockington Lane.

The place sits in a good spot, though the building feels a bit old, yet it's clean and welcoming. The owners are very hospitable, kind, and helpful, and they serve a varied breakfast with high‑quality items, especially their homemade jams.

The location is quiet, and we appreciated having a fridge stocked with fresh milk. Breakfast was freshly cooked to order with quality local ingredients. The room (14 – Riviera room) was spotless, well furnished, and spacious. The hosts were very friendly – we’re already planning a return trip to Torquay. The only downside was having to leave!
