The Skye Yurt

The Skye Yurt felt very peaceful, and with only a few other yurts on the farm it felt super private; the room was beautifully decorated, cozy and welcoming, the hosts were responsive and gave us firelight when needed, and having our own BBQ and a drinking water tap was a treat. However, the kitchen/laundry area was messy with clothes and towels on the floor and flies around from someone who hadn’t washed their plate, our bed kept collapsing and folding in when we went into bed, and some screws were loose underneath.

“A home away from home.”

Everything was exceptionally good; we didn’t want for anything, loved the little gestures that made it beautiful, the bed was so cozy and comfortable, the location was peaceful and stunning, and I’ll definitely be back and have told all my family about it. The fresh milk and eggs from the farm were a beautiful touch, and I just wish we could have cuddled the doggies this morning. The only downside was the price for one night, I think the firewood should have been included; paying £12 extra for wood that was wet and didn’t light meant we had to go to Asda for fire starters, which was not ideal. I also found someone’s sock from their previous stay under our bed, and the ash from the previous stay hadn’t been removed from the ash bucket; check‑in after 3 pm meant we didn’t get much time there. That’s the only thing I would pick at; everything else was exceptional.

“A good experience, more camping than hotel, but well run and equiped.”

The Yurt was a cool experience; I loved the roof structure and central light, the bed was very warm and comfortable, there were a lot of facilities and equipment in the yurt and WiFi worked fine, and there was milk in the fridge for tea and coffee. I kept banging my head on the low door coming in and out, the chairs were a little uncomfortable for me, though nothing was actually wrong with them. The main problem was the high wind on the second night, which made sleep difficult, and the shower and toilet block was a bit of a trek across the field.

“Glad I visited, always wanted to try a Yurt but I am definitely a hotel person.”

The accommodation was beautiful and the location lovely, but I wasn’t keen on the 100 m trek to the toilet block or the fact there was just one toilet and one shower for all the accommodations. Unfortunately our second night was spoiled by music played loudly all through the night; I don’t think it was at Scottie’s farm, but it might be worth checking with neighbours as to the source.
