“Un conseil d'amie, FUYEZ !”
Where do I even start? It was a truly original experience. I arrived around midnight and found three young people, maybe teenagers, at the front desk playing on their phones and ignoring us. I told them I had a reservation, they burst out laughing and said the hotel was full. I tried to explain that I booked through Booking and that I had a reservation. They talked among themselves and laughed again; one of them told me on his translator that since the payment hadn’t gone through they had no room for me, but if I paid a larger cash amount they could prepare a room. After a lot of frustration and confusion, I insisted for about ten minutes and refused to pay directly; they offered to show me a room and clean it if I wanted. The room was smoky and messy, but I accepted because I was desperate at midnight. After about 45 minutes of nonsense, they came back after “cleaning” the room and told me I still couldn’t have it and that I’d have to pay in cash. At 1 a.m., unable to reach an agreement, I decided to call a taxi to another hotel hoping they had a room available. The place looked more like a squat than a hotel. A friend’s advice: don’t put a toe there.
