“Relaxing resort with fabulous reef”
The resort is lovely with a fabulous reef, easily reachable from the beach or jetty. The staff are wonderful, highly trained, and made us feel welcomed and cared for; managers are always present and attentive. The suite is very large, modern, and impeccably clean, featuring polished concrete walls, a separate dressing area, a huge indoor/outdoor shower, and a comfortable bed on a pedestal. I appreciated the cold filtered water and the hot tap water for tea or coffee. Air conditioning and an overhead fan kept the room cool. The food is excellent, offering a varied menu of Indonesian (a bit mild in spice for me) and Italian dishes, reflecting the resort’s Italian ownership and management. Cocktails are delicious—try the Big Bang—and reasonably priced. The bar and restaurant staff are super and quickly remember everyone’s name after arrival. The pool is lovely, at just the right temperature, and usually very quiet; I often had it to myself. As a dive resort, most guests are out on boats most of the day, but we snorkeled frequently and had an afternoon hike in Tangkoko National Park, which was scenic with many macaque monkeys and two cuscus bears. Sulawesi is very dry now, so the animals seem to have retreated or disappeared. We enjoyed a relaxing mangrove swamp kayak tour. A few windy days made snorkeling and boat trips a bit problematic, but when calm, the house reef snorkeling was superb. The resort is a relaxing gem or a busy dive center; it’s a marine outpost with students doing reef research, so the Dive Center takes safety very seriously. If you’re after discos and karaoke, look elsewhere. It’s an early-to-bed, early-to-rise kind of place. The only negative was that we’d liked more wind.
