Yamazatonoiori Soene, nestled in Okuhida Onsengo’s scenic hot‑spring valley, offers authentic Japanese rooms overlooking river or garden views. Each room features a flat‑screen TV, refrigerator, private toilet, and slippers, with on‑site hot‑spring baths both indoor and outdoor. Located 80 minutes by bus from JR Takayama Station, it is a short drive to Shin Hodaka Ropeway, Kamikochi, and Mount Norikura.

I loved the ambiance and the very peaceful atmosphere. The room lacked comfortable seating.

The room, the food, the onsen, and the staff were all amazing! Google Maps points to the parking lot, so you have to walk a bit farther to reach the beautiful entrance.

The food felt genuinely heartfelt, especially the dinner by the grill which was intriguing; the five‑pan cake was the best I’ve tasted in Japan, and the variety of meats was generous, tasty, and helped break the “aesthetic fatigue” from several days of traditional kaiseki, all while beautifully showcasing local dishes from the Hida‑Takayama area. The hotel’s main entrance lacked a clear sign, giving it a mysterious vibe, and the public outdoor hot spring felt a bit remote at night.

I adored the stunning mountain setting, the friendly staff, the delicious meals, and the gorgeous onsens.
