Forest Shade Eco Resort Deraniyagala

The scenery was beautiful and the place was very peaceful. The staff were quick, friendly, and provided great service. The hotel and its surroundings were impeccably clean, the meals were tasty and well prepared, and we were thrilled with the weather. The swimming pools were also very clean. The only downside was that the road leading to the hotel was a bit difficult because some sections were damaged; if it were improved, reaching the hotel would be much easier and the overall guest experience better.

“Secluded rainforest lodge”

The resort’s river sounds are super relaxing, and the place sits right in the rainforest with a small walkway that leads to the river where you can swim—a find we made by accident. The property stressed how tough the road is after booking, but that should be highlighted in the description, along with how windy and remote it is. I expected more activities like yoga or massage because it’s so secluded, and as an eco‑resort I thought there would be eco‑friendly room options such as soap without plastic bottles, filtered water instead of plastic bottles, and signs encouraging water and energy conservation, yet none of that was present. Service was slow, and there was only one other family staying there. The staff who checked us in gave us little information; it would have helped to know about dinner, breakfast, and the option to swim in the river or explore walking trails, which we couldn’t find.

“Super mooie ligging, wel lastig te bereiken”

The setting is beautiful and the view from the pool is great, but it rained a lot, making the last 2 km to the hotel hard to reach and leaving us with no rafting or hiking to do; the staff couldn’t help with that either.

“A Great Place To Spend Time Peacefully.”

We loved the location, tucked away in the jungle with easy access to the Sithawaka River, and the staff were friendly and helpful; it’s a nice place to spend time peacefully, though the road’s condition was a downside.
