No food was available and no help was offered on how to have breakfast; advice was given for the evening meal, though not confidently. The operator was very reluctant to engage in conversation. Because of their overseas origins they were unfamiliar with local tourist activities or history, a familiar problem we’ve seen on many travels where foreign‑born operators lack the confidence to speak up about local features.

“We enjoyed the attractions but the accommodation was a big let down as it sounded better on website”

The only thing we liked was the proximity to the coffee shop and town centre. I would have paid about $65 for a place more suitable for backpacking. We booked for 3 nights and would have preferred staying at Longreach. The room seemed clean at first glance but soon revealed sticky marks on the floor, bedcover, and TV remote. My granddaughter found a half‑eaten jelly cup in a bedside drawer. The power outlets were unreliable, with power boards that made it difficult to turn each switch on, similar to the light switch. The bathroom was disgusting; the shower taps had large holes behind them. The walls were very thin, so we heard every footstep on both sides and could actually hear the neighbour snoring. As an asthmatic, it was annoying that people would sit outside near every door and smoke at the table with an ashtray provided, instead of having a designated smoking area away from doors; they also talked very loudly outside most of the night while smoking. This is the worst motel we’ve ever stayed at, and it made that part of our road trip very disappointing. We will not return to this place and feel sorry that a town with friendly and polite people could be brought down by such a place; word of mouth says a lot.

“Needs a lot of work. Overpriced for what it is.”

Conveniently situated but very run down. This was one of the more expensive accommodations we stayed in on our recent trip. In fairness to the new management, they have a big job to bring this place up to standard. The room we were assigned was in a block at the rear of the property and resembled the 'donga' type accommodation we had stayed in at roadhouses. The room was very small and the bathroom, although clean was in sore need of a do-over. This is not a management issue but a couple of young men were booked into the room next to ours and having begun drinking at 3 in the afternoon arrived back after the hotel shut, continued drinking and were extremely loud and disruptive. Every bang and thump shook our room. I was also badly bitten by insects during my time in Winton
