The hotel has a lot of character; the exterior, reception, and restaurant look old and rugged, but the upstairs rooms are a proper hotel with good size, clean, and comfy.

I had porridge with honey for breakfast and wished it had been a local honey product, something that would have highlighted Clonakilty’s renowned local food.

The location, the friendly staff, and the character of the hotel were all great, though parking was a bit limited – I still managed to snag a spot.

Parking was a breeze, breakfast was excellent, and there were plenty of books to read.

The room was big and comfortable but a touch old‑fashioned; it’s right in the centre of Clonakilty. Breakfast was substantial. The public toilets on the ground floor are very dated and could use modernising. The bathroom in the room was also dated, still featuring a shower curtain and a rubber mat in the bath to prevent slipping. The clientele seems to be tourists over 60 years old.
