Good stay! Even though the weather wasn’t great when we headed to the island, we had a long queue at the ferry terminal and it took quite a while to board, but so far so good—we’re enjoying our stay here.

I didn’t even get to spend a single day here. I booked my room back in March, and when I arrived on the island they said they hadn’t updated the holiday prices and I had to go back because there were no rooms available. I actually spent half a day traveling to the island.

The hotel is located by the lake near the center. We were given two rooms before the check‑in time, which were already prepared, and the last one at the official check‑in time, allowing us to drop our bags early. That was much appreciated. The rooms are decent and not too small. One had a small window with a rather unappealing view of the back patios. There were more expensive rooms with much better views. Breakfast was very basic. Be careful with the hotel’s name—it’s a very small building, and the signage is poor. I think there’s another hotel with the same name. Before giving the address to a taxi or transfer, double‑check the location. This isn’t a criticism of the hotel, but if you’re coming here, know that Cat Ba is being devastated by Sun World’s construction along the coast, which has eaten half the sea to build a complex of buildings and restaurants, ruining the small hotel and restaurant owners that used to be on the coast. If you come here, it’s better to stay in these small accommodations rather than the new ones created by this big company just to get rich, destroying the coast and landscape for mass tourism. (Sun World isn’t the only company exploiting other coastal areas.) The receptionist lied to us: we wanted a taxi all afternoon and he charged us 600 đ. Then we had to wait 20 minutes in the national park (we had to call and another taxi came), and in the village we saw that those services were much cheaper.

The hotel room with a bathroom was nicely renovated. The beds were hard, but that didn’t bother us. The room faced the street, so there was a bit of traffic noise. Breakfast was very simple but plentiful. The hotel has a different name and we found it by accident.
